andu amet Concept Store Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary!

In 2018, andu amet opened its concept store with the theme of an "imaginary hotel somewhere in Africa." Not only can customers purchase andu amet leather products and items selected by andu amet, but they can also participate in talk events and workshops focused on Africa and sustainability. This September, we are proud to celebrate our 5th anniversary.

We have been able to make it this far, even through the challenging times of the pandemic, thanks to the constant support of all of you. We will continue to strive to create a brand that brings smiles to everyone's faces.

「the Five Senses」

To express our gratitude for the 5th anniversary, we will hold a special event that allows you to experience the tastes, smells, sounds, and more of Ethiopia, the country of production, through all five senses!

At andu amet, we believe that truly beautiful products shine not only in their colors and shapes but also in the myriad of stories behind them. For this 5th-anniversary event at the concept store, we have prepared contents that allow you to enjoy with all your five senses. This includes the traditional "coffee ceremony" from Ethiopia, the place where coffee originated, and a mini live performance by the traditional Ethiopian musician, "Azmari," who plays the one-string violin.

Coffee Ceremony

In Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, there is a ritual for coffee much like the Japanese tea ceremony. Coffee brewed in a pot and served with incense has a deep flavor distinct from drip coffee. The name "coffee/cafe" is said to come from the Ethiopian region of Kaffa, where the legend of the goat herder Kaldi discovering coffee beans originated.

An Azmari is an Ethiopian bard who accompanies their singing with a one-string violin, improvising poems on the spot. Sometimes serving as court musicians praising their patrons, sometimes as comedians, and other times as social critics, they sing improvised poems wherever they go. Their melodies, filled with a sense of wabi-sabi and similar to Japanese folk songs and enka, evoke a unique connection.
